| Uddrag | Nick has also been having a rough time ever since his wife died. This is shown multiple times in the short story, for instance “Because the hardest part of being a single parent wasn’t the logistics or even the exhaustion, but just the solitude of having no one to share his son’s life with.” (p. 2 l. 53-55). Nick feels the need to share his son’s accomplishments as well as big and humorous moments in his life with friends and social media. He has been struggling to cope with his grief and has shied away from joining any support groups regarding sharing grief, which for some is the best way of coping. He distances himself and doesn’t want to face his grief. Nick feels like the only one he could share this with was his wife. “After she was gone, he found himself unwilling to entrust his hurt to anyone but her.” (p. 2 l. 66-67) He is holding on to the past and does not want to move on from his wife because he may see this as a kind of betrayal of her memory.
